There are issues that grow up around us that we think we understand. We’re familiar with the label of the issue; we know it’s context; we scan the headline media coverage about it. It’s ‘on our radar’ and it’s something we genuinely intend to ‘look into properly’….. one day.
Climate Change was an issue like that for me. It started from small beginnings a long time ago and came to prominence slowly. As it was growing, I was ‘that’ busy adult- the one who juggles caring and career and doesn’t have much space around the edges. So as the climate change warnings grew more strident I managed by thinking ‘oh- they’re dealing with this’, ‘they’ being ‘everyone whose job it is’ to look after such matters.
It wasn’t until the Pandemic struck and life slowed down so very much that the opportunity to ‘look into this properly’ really arose. So I looked and only then did I really see it- a raging Genie, well out of its bottle! And I realised that ‘they’ are not dealing with this: certainly not quickly enough to make the difference we need to make in this, the ‘decisive decade’ when we still have a chance to influence the ending of the climate story.
So I began taking my own steps – doing my own little bit, and this blog records and shares some of those actions and the effects they’ve had.
This is a practical blog. It’s about the ‘how to’ of working to achieve the best climate outcomes that are still available to us. Everything we already do has a better or worse way of getting done. This blog points you towards ‘better ways’ – both in the individual actions you take each day and in the collective actions you may choose to take if and when your circumstances allow. The ‘better’ it aims for is always the same: the best interest of our planet and all future generations of life on earth.
I hope you find something useful here.
